In response to the ads run by anti-gay black ministers fronted by Bishop Harry Jackson of the High Impact Leadership Coalition, which appeated in USA Today spreading disinformation about the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act, a group of pro-LGBT pastors have responded in kind.
In a new ad appearing in USA Today, the National Black Justice Coalition, Human Rights Campaign and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, black religious leaders counter the claim of the puppets/uncle toms of the white evangelical/conservative bigots, that the passage of the measure would muzzle pastors like Jackson from spouting homophobic sermons from the pulpit.
Bishop Jackson clearly thinks gays are taking over as he expressed those feeling in his Town Hall article:
G]ay activists around the country are getting nervous that they are about to experience an embarrassing political setback. Instead of amending the hate crimes legislation that protects churches in a substantive way, they are simply crying out in a louder, more threatening manner. Gay advocates are not looking for fairness; they are looking for an upper hand.
A recent Gallup poll showed that 68% of Americans support adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the existing hate crimes laws, this is the kind of misinformation that Harry Jackson and his homo-hating friends in the pulpit give us:
Justice MH: As Bishop Carlton Pearson said: the bill clearly states,"Nothing in this act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by the free speech or free exercise clauses the First Amendment to the Constitution" the hate crime bill says. Unfortunately, free speech, and the bible is NOT the real reason they oppose the expansion of the federal hate crimes statue. These black bigots put a new meaning to "bearing false witness", and they know their free speech is NOT threaten. The real reason they oppose this bill, in my opinion, is that the more pro-LGBT bills pass on the federal level than sooner or later it will not be popular to hate and oppose a minority's rights. It's like i said countless times on this blog, you have the right to free speech, but NOT the right to limit other American citizen's rights.

First, how can anyone follow Carlton Pearson? He is preaching unsound doctrine and lost his grace in the knowledge of God to support a doctrine that do not represent Jesus Christ. Any preacher or religious figure that supports homosexuality or any other immoral sin clearly does not have the true conviction of Christ in their heart or spirit.
These are the ones we must watch out for because they have the FORM of Godliness but deny the power thereof. Carlton Pearson and his band of black "clergy" that is probably unaware of God, unsaved and have no relationship with God is going to sit here and say this bill represents the heart of God is completely false and needs to read the bible some more and to get a spiritual clue.
Get me some real men and women of God. Someone that live what they preach and live according to the reproach of the bible. Carlton Pearson and these other pro-gay activist, religious "Doctors" of wicked counsel surely cannot be trusted nor represent the bible of the living God.
@Captain: First, is this about Bishop Carlton's beliefs? No, but judgmental and hypocritical so-called "christians" like to tell others their beliefs are wrongs, and yours are right.
Keep your moral code to yourself. Homosexuality is certainly NOT sin. Plus, homosexuality is part of the person's nature. Those who support the freedom to love homo or hetero have and understad the true convinction of Jesus Christ in their heart and spirit.
The ones that advocate lies, intoleration, or bigotry is to watch out for. Carlton Pearson and the other inclusive black clergy are aware that there is a all-loving, perfect, and omniponent God. They show their relationship is strong with God, and this bill represents something God would support. God does NOT endorse violence, and this bill will help reduce those with bias negative thoughts against those who are different.
God is NOT bound by these fallible "holy books". It is these anti-gay preachers who need a spiritual clue. Because they show they lack poor spirituality. There is NO such thing as real men and women of God.
You talk about someone that live what preach and live accounding to the bible? Well, talking about Jesus who taught love your neighbor as yourself, does not make you live by what you preach. Preaching about a Jesus who taught with great wisdom, makes them a hypocrite. These are the ones Jesus would condemn, just like the pharisees. These pro-gay black preachers truly represent the God Jesus taught about and showed.
This bill affects no ones speech, and Captain you deviated from the post's subject. You haven't showed how their speech is threaten. You can continue to bear false witness all you want, but God knows truth about the bill, but seeing as you deviated from the subject shows you know it too!
I disagree.
Instead of Carlton Pearson preaching the bible, he is advocating the bill...an incorrect and abhorent bill in congress. What is he thinking?
@Captain: You still with your ignorance and stupidity? It's alright i'll ezcuse you, i know you was born that way!
Bishop pearson supports the bill to make sure a group of people who are included are finally under protection[federally].
Let's see a bill that protects free speech, that protect LGBT and including straights as well is incorrect or abhorent?
Once again where is the proof free speech is threaten? i have yet to see it! "Wannabe Christians" have no shame in their bigotry and perversion of Christian values!
