Texas Abortion bill passes state Legislature
The Draconian abortion bill passed the Republican-led Texas state legislature. The bill heads to Governor's Rick Perry desk for his signature. Democrats did everything to stop the bill, but Republicans held a tight rein on rules in the legislature, and the bill was passed. The Texas abortion bill bans abortions after 20 weeks.
The supporters of the bill say that a majority of Texans support the bill, and are following the will of the people. Opponents of the bill say the bill restricts women's rights and access to reproductive choices.
Throughout the days leading up to the bill's passage, protestors gathered around the capitol , and protested the bill with large rallies and signs.
Republicans see this as a victory with their base and passing this key legislation as one of their top proprieties, and succeeded. Democrats see this as a way to fire up their base and fight the law in court, and see the courts coming their side. This is one more chapter to the decades fought abortion battle.
