Barak Obama Exposes the Religious Right's Agenda on hijacking Religion!!!

Ok, tell me something i don't know, but it's good to hear it called out!

White House Hopeful 2008 Sen.Barack Obama delivered a speech on faith and politics at the United Church of Christ General Synod in Hartford, Connecticut last weekend. Obama accused the right-wing social conservatives of influencing Evangelicals to focus on social issues. The Conservative Voices on the right have use their status and faith, and their take faith and politics have led to anti-woman, anti-gay, and anti- science messages.

Here's a sample of Obama's speech

"Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and started being used to drive us apart. It got hijacked"

"Part of it's because of the so-called leaders of the Christian right, who've been all too eager to exploit what divides us"

Can I get a witness on here? Amen, boy you better speak that!

Obama also mentions their views are base on the book:"I don't know what Bible they're reading, but it doesn't jibe with my version." Yes, using a book like the bible or Jewish bible, or Qumran has hurt many people by denying their rights. Groups such as Women,African-Americans, Native-Americans, and currently LGBT people!

Here's a version of the bible these Conservative/ right-wing/ fundamentalists need to read:

Anti-Gay Supporter arrested for assaulting MA marriage equality supporter!

This must be the "family values", and "moral values" they like to talk about. So much for being christ-like, or turning the "other cheek". Christian outreach? Yeah, right! via:[365gaynews]:

"A woman who was part of a conservative Christian group rallying Thursday at the Massachusetts Statehouse for a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage is charged with assaulting a gay marriage supporter who was attending a rally across the street opposing the amendment.
Diane Steele, 52, was arraigned Friday on charges of assault and battery.

Steele, from Richmond in western Massachusetts, was one of about a hundred protestors calling on state lawmakers to approve the amendment and send it to voters in 2008.

Steele allegedly crossed the street and slapped the unidentified person. The victim was startled but not hurt.

Boston Police spokesperson James Kenneally said Steele apparently decided to "escalate" the debate into a physical confrontation".

Well She probably feel like God gave her permission to put her hands on somebody. Don't know what God that is? And this isn't first time conservative christitan groups have been charge with assaulting marriage equality supporters. So i'm not surprise. The hate, intolerance, and bigotry. You gotta love their version of "Christian values", right?

Freedom to Marry remains in Massachusetts!!!!

There will be no marriage vote in Massachusetts. Gay Marriage will remain legal in Massachusetts. State Lawmakers blocked a proposed Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage from reaching voters. The 45-151 vote means Massachusetts remains the only state in the nation that allows same-sex couples to marry. This is a major victory for gay rights and marriage equality supporters.

Marriage Equality has been legal for over three years, and over 9,000 same-sex couples have tied the knot. The first black governor, a marriage equality supporter had this to say:

"In Massachusetts today, the freedom to marry is secure," said a victorious Gov. Deval Patrick, who had lobbied lawmakers up until the final hours to kill the measure.

Gov.Deval Patrick is the first black Governor to march in a Pride Parade, and to make sure freedom to marry was NOT taken away!

After all this intense debate, it will take years to have support to open the debate to have a ban on gay marriage, and the chances in the years to come are very slim.

Freedom to marry is now preserved for the state of Massachusetts. Equality is a value that works for all Americans!

NY. Gov.Eliot Spitzer trying to redefine social institution???

NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer has submitted a Marriage Equality bill in the state Assembly and senate. The Democratic New york Gov. had this to say on the bill:

"Granting legal recognition to these relationships can only strengthen New York's families, by extending the ability to participate in this crucial social institution to all New Yorkers"

Focus on the Family's Jenny Tyree responded with this right-field response:

"Homosexual marriage proponents want marriage to do something for which it was not intended — affirm homosexual relationships," ..."Marriage is not a legal institution for equality; it's a social institution with children at its heart."

"Governor Spitzer does not have to redefine marriage to demonstrate his concern for the citizens of New York."

Umm Marriage is not a "legal institution for equality," but rather a "social institution with children at its heart"? This argrument is so poor and tiresome from anti-gay groups like Focus on the Family! Hetersexuals sometimes don't want children, or can't have them. So if heteros can't have or don't want children then their marriage is NOT part of this social instituion called Marriage? It sounds like a contradiction to me!

Anyway, is NY.Gov Eliot Spitzer trying to redefine this social legal instution? Well,
the definition that we as a society seem to now understand to be part of the word marriage is something i agree with!

Gay Episcopal Bishop says he will make union with partner Official!!!

Rev. V. Gene Robinson became the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop.

Now, he and his partner want to be among the first gay couples in New Hampshire to officially unite under a soon-to-be-signed civil unions law.

New Hampshire is set to become the nation’s fourth state to offer civil unions for gay couples after legislation approved by the state Senate on Thursday was sent to Gov. John Lynch, who has said he would sign it.

“My partner and I look forward to taking full advantage of the new law,” Robinson told the Associated Press.

Robinson, 59, was elected the ninth Episcopal bishop of New Hampshire four years ago, making him the church’s first openly gay bishop. His elevation divided the Anglican community.

Robinson’s partner of 18 years, Mark Andrew, 53, is a state health care administrator. They live in Weare, a small town west of Concord.

Robinson said his long journey to where he is today began as a boy in Kentucky when he found he was not attracted to women. As an adult, he spent two years in therapy seeking a “cure” for his homosexual urges.

He told his girlfriend, Isabella, about his sexual struggles, but they married anyway in 1972, moving to rural New Hampshire and having two daughters. Robinson eventually realized he would not change and the two divorced.

“The hardest thing is coming out to yourself. You’ve internalized the same homophobia as the rest of the culture,” he said in an interview four years ago.

Soon after the divorce, Robinson met Andrew who was then working for the Peace Corps in Washington. A year and a half later, the two settled in Weare, where Andrew began accompanying Robinson to his daughters’ after-school activities.

In 1988, Robinson became assistant to New Hampshire Bishop Douglas Theuner. He lost elections for bishop in Newark, N.J., in 1998 and in Rochester, N.Y., in 1999.

Robinson said he feared for his job when he first told Theuner he was gay. But when he decided to seek elevation to bishop, he did not waver in the face of calls for him to back away.

“God and I have been about this for quite a while now and I would be really surprised if God were to want me to stop now,” Robinson said in response to one such call.

To many, Robinson has become a symbol of progress. He was welcomed two years ago at New York’s gay pride parade by marchers and spectators who reached out to touch his hand, cheered, cried and thanked him.

Robinson has said before that he would marry Andrew if he could.

“I think this moves us one step closer to the American promise to all its citizens of equality under the law,” he said. “New Hampshire understands fairness and has acted on that value,”

But Robinson said more needs to be done. In particular, he said gay couples should have full civil legal rights under federal law.

“I don’t think it will happen until we get several more states,” he said. “It doesn’t have to be a majority, but it has to be a significant number embracing full marriage rights until we can expect that at the federal level.”

Robinson predicted gays would have full equality in 20 years, and he attributed the gains to gays being open about their homosexuality.

“Fifteen to 20 years ago, most Americans would have told you and been reasonably honest that they did not know a gay or lesbian. Now, there’s not a family left, or a co-worker, that doesn’t know someone,” he said.

Justice MH's Final Thoughts: I'm glad New Hamphsire is becoming America's fourth state with Civil Unions. It's not Civil marraige, but it's a step fro us! To bishop Gene and his partner all i can say is awww im so happy for you! God has bless him as a leader to bring people him/her. Bishop Gene shows how much he loves God, and surely loves as God loves us all! However, we still have more work to do for Civil rights that are already gurantee for every american!
